RICHARD SHEPPARD JR

Richard is a true Baltimore native born and raised. He was first introduced to the game of golf by his father and uncles as an early adolescent. He has been in love with the game ever since which made it an easy decision for him to make golf his career. Being an African-American, he made it his purpose to grow and bring more exposure to this great game of golf in his community

Richard graduated from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s PGA Golf Management Program in December 2013. UMES is the first HBCU to have the PGA PGM program. He was then elected to PGA Membership in June 2014. 

He came to The Suburban Club in Baltimore as a seasonal assistant in 2013 and was elevated to First Assistant in 2015. There Richard thrived and developed how to become a golf professional. He was respected and well-liked by the membership staff, and fellow professionals. Richard’s rapid growth and success is due to his love for people, his dedication to learning, and his passion for helping all golfers to better enjoy the game of golf. 

Richard then became the Head Golf Professional at Carroll Park Golf Course in December of 2019. He also got selected to the PGA Lead Cohort V at this time, which is a leadership program for minorities in the PGA. Carroll Park is a 9-hole municipal golf course in downtown Baltimore under the Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation. Carroll Park saw tremendous success under Richard’s leadership for 2 years.

Richard began his PGA leadership journey by being elected to Regional Director of the Northern Chapter in the Middle Atlantic Section in September 2021. He then graduated from the PGA Lead Cohort V program in November 2021 at the PGA Annual Meeting.

Richard then got promoted to the Head Golf Professional at Forest Park Golf Course in November 2021. Forest Park is an 18-hole municipal golf course in Baltimore also under the Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation. Forest Park was recognized as the 9th Best Golf Course in Maryland on the 2023 Golfer’s Choice List by Golf Pass.
